Did you know…

The word cowboy comes from the Spanish word vaquero. They sometimes participate in rodeos. Movies about cowboys are often called western movies. Cowboys tend cattle and horses.

Many of the clothing items cowboys wear rooted from vaqueros. Cowboys usually wear a cowboy hat, cowboy boots, and jeans.

While living on the ranch, cowboys lived in bunkhouses with many others tending to the ranch, cattle, and horses.

Did you know…

Mariachi is a type of musical group, originally from Mexico, consisting of at least two violins, two trumpets, one Spanish guitar, one vihuela (a high-pitched, five-string guitar) and one guitarrón (a small-scaled acoustic bass), but sometimes featuring more than twenty musicians.

The size of a Mariachi band depends on the number of musicians available. They usually play requests and know tons and tons of songs.

Did you know…

The word Sombrero came from the Mexican word “sombra” which means shade. They were meant to keep people protected from the sun. Men often wore sombreros what were tan, white, or grey felt. Some sombreros could be up to 2 feet wide!

One of the most popular fiestas is Día de Muertos. This holiday is to celebrate loved ones who have passed away. Their graves are decorated with flowers and other decorations while families celebrate together with a feast, traditions, and music.
